Free Umberto licenses for projects in developing countries

15.09.2005 - ifu/PMB

ifu Hamburg GmbH, the maker of Umberto, is proud to be a sponsor of the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative award.

The mission of the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative is "to develop and disseminate practical tools for evaluating the opportunities, risks, and trade-offs associated with products and services over their entire life cycle to achieve sustainable development".

The initiative - in cooperation with LCA software makers and LCI data provider ecoinvent Centre - has launched a software award programme for developing countries.

Universities, research institutions and SMEs from five regions (Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America, South-East Asia, other developing countries) can submit LCA project proposals. An international expert panel will select the most promising submissions. The successful proposals have the chance to be awarded a free one-year license of our software Umberto. A project report must be submitted to UNEP/SETAC by December 2006. Based on this report, the jury will decide who will be nominated the winner and awarded a full three-year license of Umberto.

ifu, who has run the FORUMBAL initative in Latin America for four consecutive years is pleased that UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative now takes up on this idea and extends it to other regions of the world. We look forward to work together with the award nominees. As Umberto is more than an LCA software, we do especially encourage project ideas that have a focus on material flow analysis and process optimization.
